Now, YP is no stranger to the old scam of giving the taxi driver a bit more
cash to write out an inflated receipt to claim back on expenses. Not that we've
done it ourselves, mind you, but we know that many other people do. It's just we
never realised the growing number of people who try to fleece their employers
when it comes to expenses.
A YouGov study estimates
that a third of employees exaggerate expense claims, and it's a growing problem,
with only a quarter fiddling figures six years ago.
The explanations given for this low-level corruption include not being paid a
fair salary, not being reimbursed for all the costs incurred, and employers
being too slow to reimburse staff. Of course, we're sure none of these apply to
our honest, hard-working readers.
