The latest version of Actinic’s e-commerce package includes changes to help with site management, some enhanced usability, a new payment option, a welcome multi-channel facility and changes to accommodate Vista.

The first new feature is the much friendlier splash page, with simple icons for basic functions. In addition, there are new start-up and design wizards to get something
up and running as quickly as possible.

The biggest change is the multi-channel order processing system. Actinic now allows users to sell over the internet, by mail order or by telephone.

Sensibly, Actinic has also added Google Analytics integration rather than writing its own analytic package, although it has chosen to design its own payments system. Version 9 also includes support for the new Actinic Payments option – Actinic’s own payment processing service.

Catalog is now much easier to use than in version 8, but there may still not be enough changes to warrant upgrading immediately.

All the same, it is still easily the best boxed e-commerce product on the market.
