Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus provides an impressive range of advanced and entry-level video-editing features. However, it could still be made easier to use for newcomers.
This latest version includes some clever features we have not seen before, such as a ‘multicam’ option. If you shoot the same event with two camcorders you can click on a Multicam option and the program will line up two sets of video tracks where you can arrange the footage from each camcorder.
You can then create ‘snap’ points at specific points on each set of clips such as the kick-off in a football match in order to synchronise the timing of the two sets of clips.
As you do this, the program’s Monitor window previews both sets of footage, allowing you to switch viewpoints from one camcorder to the other by clicking on the required clip in the Monitor.
We also like some of the effects options, such as the picture-in-picture and collage effects, which are easy to modify.
The collage effect, for instance, quickly allows you to display multiple clips on screen at the same time perhaps having a series of smaller images that form a border around a central image, or gradually superimposing a series of clips over each other.
But while these features can be used to create some slick editing effects, they’re sometimes difficult to understand. When we started to experiment with the multicam option we had trouble figuring out how to use snap points, and neither the program’s manual nor built-in help files were much use.
There’s also a lot of confusing jargon that can put you off using a feature.
Although Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus does provide a versatile range of editing tools, Magix could still do more to make the learning process a bit more straightforward and intuitive.
